128-bit
browser upgrade
This
page is designed to fully upgrade your browser to 128-bit
encryption, the highest level of security available on the
Internet.
*
Strong encryption refers to the size of the key used to encrypt
the message. Roughly speaking, messages encrypted with strong
(128-bit) encryption are 309,485,009,821,345,068,724,781,056
times harder to break than those that use 40-bit encryption.
However, some experts estimate that keys much shorter than
128 bits will be safe for the next two decades.
*
Strong encryption will enable you to make more secure transactions,
used in online banking and trading. Available to U.S. and
Canadian citizens or permanent residents only.

128-Bit
Encryption Upgrade
In
the box below, your browser's version will be displayed. You
will then use this information to install the proper upgrade.
- If the browser
version listed in the gray box reads,
"Mozilla/4.51 [en] (Win98; U),"
or similar, you are using Netscape Navigator with Windows.
To find out if you have 40-bit encryption or 128-bit encryption,
look at the last item. If the last item is a U,
you are using the U.S. version (128-bit). If the last item
is an I, you are using the International
version (40-bit) and will need to upgrade!
- If the browser
version listed in the gray box reads,
"Mozilla/4.51 [en] (Macintosh; U; PPC),"
or similar, you are using Netscape Navigator on a Macintosh.
To find out if you have 40-bit encryption or 128-bit encryption,
look at the middle item. If the middle item is a U,
you are using the U.S. version (128-bit). If the middle
item is an I, you are using the International
version (40-bit) and will need to upgrade!
- If the browser
version listed in the gray box reads,
"Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows
98 ),"
or similar, you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer. To
find out if you have 40-bit encryption or 128-bit encryption,
click "Help" on the toolbar at the top of your
browser window. Select "About Internet Explorer"
from the drop down menu. A small pop-up screen will appear.
This screen will list your browser's "Cipher Strength"
(40-bit or 128-bit).

a specific browser for your computer. Simply click the Next
button and run the program from its current location. If you
don't see a recommendation, follow the instructions below.
You can customize your installation during the setup, adding
additional components, by choosing the Customize Your Installation
option. Windows users can also add components later by choosing
Microsoft Internet Explorer from the Add/Remove Programs list
in the Control Panel, or by visiting the Windows Update site
at
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
- On the Internet
Explorer download page, click the offering you want to download.
- When the list
of platforms appears, click the one for your computer.

Netscape
Navigator
Installation
a)
We recommend you click "Run this
program from its current location."
b)
If you choose Save As, select
the location on your hard drive where you want to save the
Internet Explorer setup files. After the setup files have
been saved to your hard drive, and while you're still connected
to the Internet, run setup by double-clicking the setup.exe
now located on your hard drive. (For Internet Explorer 5 this
will be ie5setup.exe, for Internet Explorer 4 this will be
ie4setup.exe.)

c)
In the first setup dialog box, select which package
of Internet Explorer Components you want to download.
- As you download
your Netscape product, be sure to note the folder to which
you are downloading the software.
- Find the folder
the file was downloaded into and double-click on the file.
At the dialog box asking whether you want to install the
software, click Yes. You will be taken to the installer
program.
- In the installer,
you will see a series of setup screens. Be sure to read
and follow the instructions on each screen carefully. You
will be asked to read and agree to a license agreement,
choose a location in which to install the software, and
choose or create the folder name for the program.
If you install your new software into the Netscape folder
that contains your current version of the product, your
old version will be overwritten, but you can still use your
existing bookmarks, preferences, and settings. If you wish
to keep a copy of the old version as a backup, simply create
a new folder for the software you are about to install.
Note: Netscape Navigator for Windows 3.1 will ask if you
want to continue using your existing netscape.ini file.
Answer Yes if you want to continue using your existing bookmarks
and preferences; otherwise the netscape.ini file will be
overwritten and existing settings will be lost.
- Once you see
the prompt telling you that installation is complete, go
to the folder where you installed your new software. Double-click
on the Navigator application icon to launch your new browser.
